DC SHOE SAVES PHILADELPHIA SPECTATOR’S FOOT?

The evidence: The shot up Havocs

We all know they are designed to stand up to the abuses of skateboarding, but did you know that DC Shoes could also help protect your feet from stray bullets? Twelve-year-old Dante Formosa, who was wearing Colin McKay’s signature Havoc shoes, found this out the hard way on the Fourth of July.

As Dante was enjoying a fireworks display and concert held at Philadelphia’s art museum with his family last Sunday, he suddenly felt a throbbing pain in his foot. He later told NBC News that “it felt like a sledgehammer.”

Dante was accidentally shot in the foot by an errant bullet, and it’s believed that the DC shoe he was wearing helped prevent the bullet from causing him serious injury. Although it penetrated his shoe and wounded Dante’s foot, the injury was minor and a friend was able to pull the bullet out of the bloody sneaker. If Dante had been wearing less protective shoes, the NBC story goes, a gunshot like this could have destroyed his foot.

On the incident, Dante said: "At least I'm OK. I got lucky. But somebody else could have got hurt real bad. There was all these people there and it's pretty obvious that somebody is going to get hit if you fire off a gun. You shouldn't fire off a gun. It's not right." RDS Skatepark News

April 2004

Lot's of stuff happening in April here at the park. On Saturday April 24th we will be having the first RDS Skatepark Lil' Dudes Contest. There is two catagories, ages 6-10 and 11-13. The contest starts at 9am and goes until 12pm. Tons of prizes and giveaways. Come on down and register.

Sunday April 25th, we will be having Alex Chalmers, Dylan Reider, Omar Hassan and Reese Forbes from Quicksilver at the park sessioning at 2:00pm. Come on down and skate with them or sit back and watch. Then on Tuesday the 27th we'll be having 14 different girl's from the Roxy team here sessioniong at around 5:00 pm.

Thursday April 29th at 5:00pm will be the Zero and Mystery tour. There will be a demo from 5 - 6:30pm. Riders include: Jamie Thomas, John Rattray, Chris Cole, John Allie, Garrett Hill, Tony Cervantes, Tommy Sandoval, and James Brockman from Zero. Mystery brings us: Adrian Lopez, Ryan Smith, Ryan Bobier, Dan Murphy, Sierra Fellers, and Lindsey Robertson. As well on that Thursday we will be hosting the Annual Ultimate Barbecue here at the RDS Skatepark.

Ryan Smith and Ryan Gallant turn Pro

This November, Ryan Smith and Ryan Gallant both said farewell to the amateur ranks and stepped up to join the pros. As ams, both paid their share of dues. Smith finished his first full video part last year for Zero’s Dying to Live, wrapped up a part for The DC Video, and bagged three magazine covers, for TransWorld, Thrasher, and Skateboarder. Gallant followed up his first full part in the landmark PJ Ladd’s Wonderful, Horrible Life with a full part in The DC Video
